“Haath Mere Saathi”

It’s indeed funny to imagine someone telling us… “The gut comes before the mouth”
Especially in a case of hand to mouth existence!

It’s truly a case of misplaced priorities for almost a majority of all our politicians!

The use of legislated powers by government officials/politicians for illegitimate private gain has become nothing new in India. Misuse of government power for other purposes, such as repression of political opponents and general apathy, brutality, corruption and arrogance due to power has become rampant.

An illegal act by an officeholder constitutes  a horrid crime worse than genocide. It has to be termed “political genocide”  The act is directly related to their post of power, official duties,  and is done under the garb of law, mostly involving bartering in influence.

People lead protest, block roads, stop trains, throw stones, burn tyres and buses, rough up people and generally disrupt the “common” man’s life as a mark of loyalty and love to their man/woman in power. This my Friends the dirty “game” of politics which is played by “seasoned” actors who indulge in nothing but histrionics. An act by people in power who are above and beyond the law themselves!

Throwing shoes, slapping politicians and screaming anti “hero” slogans surely requires a lot more than just condemning the act! Many people around the country including members of the opposition surely have obtained some vicarious sadomasochistic pleasure watching the “wrap” that was telecast.

Forget the rightness, wrongness and the civility of the act for a second. It is the extreme form of rage and a response triggered by the indifference and pseudosemnatics of leperous actors on elected posts of power.

Ask the common man!...Atleast hundred plus of my Friends(including some bureaucrats) were happy and applauding the act(of course in private)..something they wish they could have done as well! Lucky they were not being monitored in their homes!

Mr Sharad Pawar was just one unfortunate  man at the receiving end! Sad and unfortunate for him.

Most of the rest of the men/women in power are on the deceiving end!

Time to get REAL my dear Friends.

We may put on an act for the sake of the public but ask yourselves how many actually enjoyed that voyeuristic instinct dispalyed by Harvinder and relished the resounding sound of the “thappad”!

The majority of this country the so called “aam aadmi” at the end of their tether. They are FED up and sick to death of this never ending deceptive politicial soap. Of course with long “commercial” breaks!

As long as our leaders put their needs before the nations’ only worse could replace fireworks and footwear!

Mr Politician-The next time you think of the gut before the mouth you would surely end up with a 7 on the Richter Scale on your Buccinators for which you would let out a woofer enhanced wail!

The mouth always comes before the gut! That’s the law of nature that cannot be tampered with!

Not even by you Mr Politician! .....Haath Mere Saathi! Chaata lagaaa...hai re hai...

  1. Funny but coming to think of it...the Congress symbol is the Hand!

  2. Haath mere Saathi - Use of hand for performance appraisal as Pawar now knows. Can also become a frustrated bachelor's slogan!

  3. Well it's just one way of looking at it Mr Ravindra!....Finally it's all left to us!;-)

  4. true, expression of anger and the result i.e assault of public leaders is not something to be looked forward to but then some cases need to be looked at in isolation.
what i mean here is that i am not a congress supporter but it doesn't mean that i will go around beating every cong leader. that is wrong, it sets a wrong chain reaction.
having said this, the cases in isolation, as i mentioned above, refers to the assault on Sharad Pawar & Prashant Bhushan.
why these two cases are in isolation-
    A) Prashant Bhushan - he made a statement on a topic which is very emotional for majority of the Indians. for years people have given their lives to defend the pride & solidarity of kashmir. in wake of such emotions, there was no business of Mr. Bhushan to make a completely unsolicited remark on kashmir virtually tentamounting to its sedition or rather support the process of sedition. shud Mr. Bhushan have made such a remark? shud there be a limit on the freedom of expression. isn't the statement too derogatory enough to provoke, a kashmiri pandit who lost all his valuables or a family member of a soldier who died while fighting a kashmiri terrorist, go and assault mr. bhushan. in his case, i feel it was well justified.
    2) Sharad Pawar - why sharad pawar. for years his name has always been used as synonym for corruption in Indian politics. this man has made fun of democracy before by changing his stance (nothing wrong in this & it is done by every party) but then sharad pawar handled a ministry which was directly responsible for the lives of millions of common indians. Harvinder is just a name, it cud have been any one else.aren't his mis governance again very provocative for a family member of a farmer who committed suicide to come and slap him.

i repeat that public assault is bad but then some cases need to be looked at with the broader perspective.

if tomorrow, a family member of those SP protesters who were kicked by congress leaders & say seriously injured, come and hurl a shoe at say jitin Prasad, who would we look at it. that too would be , no doubts wrong, but then in some cases it is a reactionary process.

  5. Yeah agree in context Jaideep...Thank you for sharing.
The whole issue erupted when I read a statement by Mr Kapil Sibal in the morning newspaper which said "The nation must come before politics"....These people are so adept at making fiery and flowery statements that most often it leaves the Citizens confused!

  6. i completely agree with you..and this is for more or less politicians cutting across party lines. it often leaves us confused but thats why i always say that no party is full of either saints or sinners. what is imp, acc to me, is that we shud support the party ideology & its performance. we have to live with it, i mean our demo. system and we shud. so it makes sense to exercise our electoral rights and send d party which aandhon mein kana raja.

  7. Ushy, With all the rhetorics we are failing to realize that Harvinder reflects you and me. The slapgate is not just about one incident but a culmination (or maybe wrong here) just a harbinger of future instant justice delivery mechanism. I see this a distinct possibility considering that system has repeatedly failed expectations of common man. Was I a voyeur relishing the slapgate? I would be lying if I say no. I am not above that. I don't condone violence in any form, but then does this shock me? No! It was waiting to happen. But there is no joy nor sorrow that this incident happened. I am getting hard-hearted and indifferent to this.
Time the system has to address the growing frustration of Harvinders of India. Time we take responsibility to help those in need. Time we address economic disparity (vulgar display of wealth and manual scavenging on the other).

Overall, great piece of work, Ushy! Keep it coming. As you closed - if gut comes before the mouth, then expect some "cuts"

  8. Congrats, this blog has been very well scripted.
Earlier it was the era of the shoe-gate which started with Bush and now it's the slap-gate. Though I am not at all amused with this incident as it gives a bad taste in the mouth considering the fact that a fatherly figure has been bashed up for no valid reason. But at the same time it gives us food for thought that something is amiss & some corrective measures need to be done by the collective wisdom of those people who run the government.
Actually, essential commodities should be made cheaply available and luxury should be exhorbitantly charged. If the aam admi gets his priorities & esssentials at an affordable rate, then he is not worried about 1G, 2G or 3G.
He will then be satisfied with aye G, suno G, khaana de do G, and will not even bother to think about Raja, Koda, Kalmadi, Kaani & company.
Secondly, I would like to stress here that Bundhs, yatras, chakka jams, rallies, strikes have no place in our developing country as they wreck the economy and spoil the smooth day to day functions of the aam-admi's routine and gives a bad name to the leaders.
True, Congress' symbol is the hand - but not for this purpose.

  9. Mataji, a timely one and as is with you, at your satirical best!

Now to the subject, SlapGate, as is the buzzword now attributed to it.

Except for his 71 years and a face attacked by paralytic contort, the slapgate was an imminent necessity, waiting to be delivered. That Sharad Pawar was the honorable recipient is no astonishment as he certainly qualifies to be one amongst the short listed eminent group of dignitaries. He was begging for receipt of this since long, perhaps since the Wheat Import Scam in 2007 or the Sugar export/import Scam in 2009 or the recent Onion hoarding Scam in 2010 & 2011. Amidst all these scams, he and his close knit family made billions by way of commissions, import/export licences etc. Annexation of the BCCI and other sporting bodies was also yet another black feather in his conniving and obscure hat of failures. He is the one impediment standing between a possible ban on Endosulfan, a deadly organochlorine insecticide and acaricide that is being phased out globally, yet according to him there is no worthy proof yet to implicate it as being toxic!!

His long standing political career was well nourished with the 3 Ws = Wine, Wealth & Women! His direct connection with the underworld is no secret. It was he who allegedly gave tickets to Pappu Kalani and Hitendra Thakur - both well known criminal-turned-politicians now. There are rumors of his association with Dawood Ibrahim's associates too but deliberately hushed up by disabling the investigating agencies into submission and acceptance of false facts.

Considering all this and the sheer frustration of a nation, at not just Shard Pawar, but the entire band of Jokers sitting in governance, SlapGate was most welcoming which prompted even the Gandhian, Anna Hazare to exclaim, "only one slap"?

Though entirely of a wrong precedent, the entire nation sat in sanguine content watching the overdose repeat of the slap telecasted by our pugnacious Main Stream Media houses who never miss an opportunity to kill.

Hope and pray the SlapGate becomes a caution, a deterrent to all those obnoxious Politicians, regardless of political affiliations, to act upon with due diligence and engage wholeheartedly in what they are supposed to engage in, i.e., serve the people who voted them in and the nation to which they belong to.

A much awaited and long overdue anecdote!!! :):)

Thanks for the short account of an interesting or humorous incident put across with equal wit and purpose.

  11. Politicians always thought that they can spend some money to gather the crowd , give political speechs to make those people clapping but now looks like they need shell out more money for thier security to avoild people from Slapping .......
LOL MAATAJIII security is on demand ...

  12. A very interesting take and nicely put across. The slap reflects the growing intolerance of common man lest it be mistaken for mere publicity as some 'famous' lady journalist from TV mentioned. This slap is not the first and will also not be the last. The Moral or takeaway from this is: If you are not going to Wake up, scum bags (politicians), we will wake you up with our alarm system in the form of Slap. Stop taking us for a Ride-ae-Royale!!!

Loved the part "...The next time you think of the gut before the mouth you would surely end up with a 7 on the Richter Scale on your Buccinators for which you would let out a woofer enhanced wail!"... ROFL ROFL ROFL!!!

Waisey, even CONgress' symbol is a hand. A hand that snatches first & then delivers the rest of the aam-aadmni (In order of their religion. Minorities 1st, Majority later).

Common man will suffer. As always.

  22. Thought provoking piece!Insinuations like 'media hungry';'demented;'paid' etc. about Harvinder Singh only confirm the prevailing political brazenness & media apathy towards the growing genuine public disgust.Ironic, even self acclaimed intellectual elite class who were in the fore front in applauding 'Rang De Basanti' vigilantism & Bush 'shoe-hurling' do not see the 'message' in the 'slapegate'in their own frontyard.Immediate casualty might be Anna Hazare's anti graft mass-movement.In case his those team mates-the proponents of Jinah's Two Nation Doctrine inspired terror infested Kashmir separatism, continue to be besides Anna when he sits next on fast,Vande Matram fervour that was instrumental in mobilising masses is likely to go missing.

  23. Dear Lalit
Thanx for sharing.Fully concur with your saying that"the prevailing political brazenness & media apathy towards the growing genuine public disgust. 'slapegate'in their own frontyard."

But what in your opinion is the way out?...Do you think the public needs to be actively
participating in decision and policy making?

  24. Beginning with the day to day engagement in civic life in ones' neighborhood, avid expression of public concern for(mis)governance will go a long way in cleansing of the prevailing toxicity in contemporary politics.Public callousness towards state affairs is costing nation dearly.Kashmiri Hindu Pandits rendered refugees in their own country following their ethnic cleansing(India's only)in the land of their origin goes unnoticed & the establishment is bolstered to go ahead & dump 26/11 Mumbai massacre(medieval type raid executed using modern means)victims.Calling Pak PM a 'man of peace'amounts to rubbing salt on the wounds of terror victims & there is no murmur even.Masses are supreme in a democracy & Indians are yet to claim that superiority.Public participation is a must.
